Splits

Shared costs with a partner, roommates or family.

A split is a running tab between you and someone else: a partner, roommates, the family who share a place. Each cost goes in once, with who paid and how it's shared, and the balance keeps itself.

Starting one

  1. Open Splits and start a new one. Name it after the thing you share: Lake house, Apartment, Trip to Québec.
  2. Add the people. They can be in your account already, or just a name. Invite them later if you want them to see and add costs themselves.
  3. Choose how costs are shared by default: evenly, or by a share each.

Adding costs

Add a cost by hand, or send a receipt to the split when you check it. Every cost records who paid and how it's shared, and you can change either on the spot.

Settling up

The split always shows who owes whom, reduced to the fewest payments. Mark a payment when it's made and the balance updates. Nothing is sent or charged on your behalf.

In your books

Your side of each shared cost lands in your books as your expense; the other side is what you're owed or owe. Your partner's books, if they have an account, show the mirror image.
