Books

The double-entry books behind everything.

Everything you capture ends up in Books: proper double-entry books, kept for you. You never have to learn accounting to use them, and an accountant will recognise them on sight.

What's in there

  • Entries: every entry, newest first, with what it was and where it went.
  • Accounts: your bank accounts, cards, the mortgage, income and expense accounts, each with a balance.
  • Categories: how entries are grouped, like groceries, home repairs or office supplies.
  • People & businesses: who you pay and who pays you.
  • Rules: sentences like Home Depot receipts tagged rental go to Rental repairs, applied automatically.
  • Activity: receipts and bank lines waiting to be matched and added.

Bank statements

Import a statement as a CSV. Each line appears in Activity. Lines that match a receipt or an invoice are paired for you; the rest are categorised by your rules, and anything left asks one question.

Reports

Balance sheet, income statement and trial balance, for everything or for one lens: just the corp, just the rental. Every number can explain itself: tap it to see the entries behind it.

Periods

Close a year once the accountant has it. Nothing in a closed period changes by accident; corrections go in as new entries, the way they should.
